Route

The total length of the route is 17 kilometres, almost entirely on gravel roads. The route follows the Hangasharju ridge and continues along the Ruuhitunturi fell, offering spectacular scenery. You can get  through the Reindeer Park by using the side gates for bikers and hikers (next to the locked gates).  At the end of the route, you return to a paved road for another three kilometres.

The trail begins on Hangasjärvi -road, which passes Sallatunturin Tuvat (where you can also rent a bike). Gravael road runs straight and turns left before an old gate.
After riding the hill down, there're stairs on the left which lead you to Hut of Ämmi in case you want to take a walk and rest for a while on a very idyllic fire place by a bond.

The road continues forward, crosses a bridge along the river, and rises steeply up and then nicely down. The trail turns right and ascends to Hangasvaara rugged landscape. The  Sallatunturi -fells  among  many other fells and hills offer a great landscape. Hangasvaara's sightseeing point is a nice place to sit down, take photos and breath. The wildest ones run down and up again on the stairs going all the way down below the hill.

The journey continues and road turns before the gravel pits to the left and left again. After a piece of an old landing strip, there are several kilometres direct, but hilly gravel road. Landscapes vary from Lake Hangasjärvi glittering water to great profile of  Ruuhitunturi -fell great and blooming swamps. The road comes to the back gates of Reindeer Park and goes through the park for the main building. Many reindeer wander on the way and when reaching the Reindeer Park  enjoy a snack in the cafe.

The last three kilometers of the route goes along the main road. On the right side just before coming to Sallatunturi, there's a war memorial 'Basement of Sotka' which is free to visit and feel the atmosphere of soldiers hidden in the basement during the Winter War.

Length of route

17 km, the estimated time is about 1 ½ hours ( cycling speed of 10 km / h )

Please note

Some steep ups and downs. In some places the road is not in good condition. Please, remember that Reindeer Park gates must be closed after entering and the animals in the park must not be disturbed. The last part, 3 km of main road has not a bike path.  Between the Reindeer Park and Hangasvaara sightseeing point(approximately 10 km) there are no resting places.
