The midnight sun means you can roam the grounds of Salla around the clock in the summertime. You can experience something unforgettable, for example by hiking to the top of a fell or taking a canoe trip on a wilderness lake.
The hiking trails are marked and classified according to difficulty, and they cover more than 300 kilometres. The hiking and trekking trails will lead a traveller to meet nature experiences beyond comparison. You can also rent a bike with which the wilderness is easy to reach on the biking trails on the forest roads. On guided canoe, church boat, fishing, hiking, Nordic walking and ATV excursions, the wilderness safely opens up to everyone, under the guidance of local guides. In autumn, the vast wilderness offers splendid opportunities for admiring the wonderfully coloured foliage but also for hunting and picking berries.
The easiest way to get to know the local culture of reindeer husbandry is in the guided reindeer programmes of the Salla Reindeer Park. You can feel the history come alive at the Museum of War and Reconstruction in Salla and on the actual battle fields of WWII. In the summertime, various events all around Salla also provide a unique touch, with the local culture and laid-back Lappish way of life.
The weekly summer programme offers something for everyone. In Salla, in the middle of nowhere, you won’t get bored in the summer, either.
