Salla advertises itself by being in the middle of nowhere, but regardless of this, Salla is easy to access by flying to either Kuusamo or Rovaniemi airport, by night train to Kemijärvi or by own car driving through amazing landscapes. This winter Salla offers a whole range of new services for the enjoyment of everyone!
Even more attention is being paid on the slopes of Salla to children. The children's slope situated above the Slope Service Center will be equipped with a new lift, to serve children, beginners and others as well as guests visiting the slope restaurant. The new lift will replace the previous rope lift, and it is three times as long as its predecessor. The rope lift is relocated to the other edge of the front slope, next to the sled slope. Along this new lift the total number of lifts at Salla will rise to six. The front and the middle slope will be developed into a racing slope, which fills the FIS classification requirements.
The 'first-snow-track', which has been wished for a long time, becomes real this winter. A one kilometre long ski track will be set up by the lake Keselmäjärvi, offering cross-country skiers a possibility to enjoy the Salla landscapes as early as possible.
There are also two new restaurants in Salla. A new meeting point -Snowpoint, situated half way of Sallatunturi and Salla centre, which was previously known as Sallainen Maja, has a new owner. Snowpoint offers restaurant and café services with theme nights and events for both domestic and international customers. Village pub No.14 Cafébar - was opened in the Salla centre. You can relax after an active winter day in a good company enjoying a glass of wine, playing board games, pool or darts. Entertainment offered by No.14 Cafébar includes also live music, stand-up performances, karaoke and quiz evenings.
This year the new Arctic Circle Safari route will take the guests on snowmobiles to the other side of the Russian border.
Authentic excitement of reindeer race can be experienced at the reindeer races held in the Salla Reindeer Park, where every adult participant will be offered a possibility to enjoy high speed gliding on skis pulled by a widely galloping reindeer. Children can experience speed on a reindeer sleigh.
The versatile sporting options offered by Salla Sport Centre now include new group fitness events. An innovative environment has been set up in the Salla library, the shoe store Jaanan Kenkä and the Salla Sport Centre, which provide means comprehensive wellbeing. The innovative fitness environment of the Salla Sport Centre offers possibilities for testing various fitness equipment like a cross training unit, running mat, and exercise bikes for adults and children.
To prove that you have indeed spent your holiday in the middle of nowhere, you can take a picture of yourself with your friends at the new “Salla-in-the-middle-of-nowhere photoshop” situated on the very top of Sallatunturi. You can also enjoy the magnificent views opening from the top of the fell to the Russian side of the border, the old Salla fells.
